Fiona has over 25 years of experience working with children, families, and education settings as a teacher and Local Authority Education Improvement Advisor. She is a She is a Certified Play Therapist and specialist in early years education (age 0 to 5 years) and has particular interests in social and emotional development and well-being.
Therapeutic play is a way of supporting children who may be struggling to make sense of their feelings or events. Play is a child’s natural way of communicating and learning and through play children’s feelings, thoughts and memories can be explored, processed and transformed. Fiona generally works with children of Primary School age (4 to 11 years).
Children may show their distress through their behaviour at home or at school, may be struggling to come to terms with a big change in their lives such as a bereavement, separation, house move or illness, or simply not seem to engage in play or with their friends.
